En 1963, du pétrole a été découvert le long de la Nun (environ 89 km en amont). En 1965, le pipeline Trans-Niger a été achevé et le pétrole des champs de la rivière Nun a été acheminé jusqu’à Rumuekpe, où il existe un lien avec la ligne Trans-Niger. Au tournant du 21e siècle, cependant, le contrôle des richesses pétrolières du Nigéria sur la rivière Nun et ailleurs provoqua une violence croissante.

In 1963, oil was discovered along the Nun (about 89 km upstream). In 1965, the Trans-Niger pipeline was completed and oil from the Nun River fields was transported to Rumuekpe, where there is a link with the Trans-Niger line. At the turn of the 21st century, however, control of Nigeria's oil wealth on the Nun River and elsewhere caused increasing violence.
