Ce parc de 12,9 hectares, proche du quartier central des affaires de Nairobi a été sauvé par Wangari Maathai de la destruction dans les années 1980 par un projet immobilier soutenu par le gouvernement de Daniel Arap Moi . Cette militante écologiste kenyane, qui obtiendra le prix nobel de la paix en 2004, est à l’origine du mouvement « Green Belt », fondé en 1997 avec pour projet de défendre les forêts et reboiser l’Afrique.

This 12.9 hectare park, close to Nairobi’s central business district, was saved by Wangari Maathai from destruction in the 1980s by a real estate project supported by the government of Daniel Arap Moi. This Kenyan environmental activist, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004, is at the origin of the “Green Belt” movement, founded in 1997 with the project of defending forests and reforesting Africa.
