Muanda, grosse cité bâtie au bout d’une piste, ancien avant-poste de la colonisation portugaise puis belge, abrite aussi toute la façade maritime de la RDC : 38 kilomètres, coincés entre l’embouchure du fleuve Congo et l’enclave angolaise de Cabinda. Autrefois, les pirogues de pêcheurs s’alignaient sur les rives de ce timbre-poste de sable blond, de cocotiers et de mangrove. Elles ont cédé la place aux porte-conteneurs qui relient Pointe-Noire (Congo Brazzaville) et Luanda (Angola) aux ports fluviaux de Boma et Matadi (RDC). L’agriculture permet tout juste de nourrir la population, qui ne cesse d’augmenter.

Muanda, a large city built at the end of a track, a former outpost of Portuguese and then Belgian colonization, also shelters the entire maritime coast of the DRC: 38 kilometers, wedged between the mouth of the Congo River and the Angolan enclave of Cabinda. In the past, fishing canoes lined the shores of this postage stamp of blond sand, coconut trees and mangroves. They have given way to container ships which connect Pointe-Noire (Congo Brazzaville) and Luanda (Angola) to the river ports of Boma and Matadi (DRC). Agriculture barely makes it possible to feed the population, which continues to increase.
