« Sammy Baloji est un photographe est ne à Lubumbashi, dans la province minière du Katanga, après l’indépendance du Congo. En 2006 sa série de photographies « Mémoire » interroge l’histoire de l’extractivisme au Katanga en superposant par des collages de photographies d’archives datant de la colonisation ou de l’époque où la Gécamines était florissante et des images actuelles représentant les sites d’extraction en ruines. En 2012, sa série de photographies « Kolwezi » s’emploie à creuser l’histoire de son pays et à l’inscrire dans les circuits de richesses à l’échelle planétaire. Par le biais de photomontages qu’il nomme « dyptiques » ou « raccords », il raconte la vie des mineurs congolais employés par des sociétés chinoises. Ces diptyques confrontent la réalité et les rêves brisés de ces travailleurs. »

"Sammy Baloji is a photographer born in Lubumbashi, in the mining province of Katanga, after the independence of the Congo.
